Hiking & Fynbos

Experience nature and explore the wonders of our incredible Fynbos. Discover the symbiosis between birds, mammals, insects and plants. Our wonder of nature, the Walker Bay Fynbos is part of the “Cape Floral Kingdom” which was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO with effect from 1. July 2004. The Cape Floral Region is the smallest but richest such area on earth and presents no less than 8.000 endemic higher plant species as well as 15 endemic mammals, 43 reptiles and 23 amphibians.

Mountain hiking trails are probably the best way to investigate this paradise. Ranging from leisurely to challenging, it is easy to find a walk suitable to your personal taste and physical condition. Probably the best place is Fernkloof Nature Reserve, only 25 minutes from Crayfish Lodge.

You will be rewarded with breathtaking, magical and spectacular views.

Or simply enjoy a walk in the harbour at sunset watching the fisher boats surrounded by seagulls.
